According to an online poll conducted by Smart Travel Asia magazine between May and July 2010, SpiceJet Airlines features in the list of top five ‘Best Budget Airlines in Asia’. It has consolidated its position from being the 9th Best Budget Airline in 2009 to becoming the 5th Best Budget Airline in Asia. This is a clear indication of its increasing strength in the highly competitive airline industry.

As part of an expansion policy, SpiceJet Airlines has increased its network in the South by introducing flights to Madurai in September 2010. Daily Spice jet flights now connect Madurai with Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai. The airline recently announced a fresh order for the purchase of 30 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The expanded fleet of 58 aircraft is expected to meet the growing demand in the domestic sector in the country.

A significant success in the domestic sector has encouraged the airline to venture in to the international skies. SpiceJet flights commenced its operations in the international sector with the introduction of flights to Colombo and Kathmandu from Chennai and Delhi respectively in October 2010. The fares being offered on Chennai-Colombo and Delhi-Kathmandu routes are highly competitive as compared to the industry standards.

According to the first quarter results this year, the airline recorded a net profit of Rs. 55.22 crore for the quarter ended June 2010. The on-time performance matches with the best in the industry and there is a least number of flight cancellations.

SpiceJet Airlines has firmly established its position in the domestic airline industry. The airline’s endeavor to combine economy with quality service has led to an increasing number of passenger bookings.
